Canadian women make over half a million visits to doctors per year due to urinary tract infections (UTIs). UTIs affect 80 per cent of women at least once in their lifetime. D-Mannose is a simple sugar that occurs naturally in some plants, including cranberries. Nearly all infections of the lower urinary tract and bladder are caused by a few strains of E. coli bacteria called uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC).
